Friendly pub with a wide range of beers. Perfect all year around, cosy fire in the winter, pub garden in the summer. They seem to have a number of live music events on. Definitely worth calling in for a drink.
No longer the warm cosy friendly place it was. Needs new staff, focus on decent food & service, the fire lit & comfy couches back. Used to be our favourite place in St Albans but has been ruined recently.
My partner and I visited for Sunday lunch today. I was pleased they could fit us in but unfortunately the food was very poor. I had the beef, which was a terrible quality cut with lots of gristle and little tender meat. The veg was bog standard. Merely cooked and covered in gravy. The chicken was a bit better, but overall the meal was very disappointing. I'd read good reviews but can't imagine they were based on food of this standard.
Just to back up our our review below... Here is the booking confirmation we recieved.. I was told on arrival that it would never of been booked, I was made to feel like an idiot, especially for saying "if possible can we be next to the fire" in my booking request. I never recieved a cancellation booking (I ask them to post a screenshot of it being sent if this was the case - they won't, they made a clerical error). Look how rude they are in the response below... It's the same in reality - complete refusal to acknowledge their mistake. Anyway... The issue isn't the confusion, I understand this can happen occasionally. It was the way it was handled... Not once did we receive an apology or recognition that we had been let down. Honestly, if they'd said sorry I'd have walked away but it handled so rudely - that is why I'm intent on making this review.TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
